Navigating Through Difficult Conversations

Difficult conversations are just that – difficult.

Any conflict that comes up in your personal or professional life can go either way, you either smoothly reach a mutual agreement or end up having that difficult conversation. And most people do not like being in this position.

So, what do you do? When a conflict is looming, what matters at this point is how you plan to navigate and manage your way through this conversation the best way possible.

You’ve lost half of the battle if you go into a difficult conversation thinking that this should be easy breezy. A difficult conversation will always be difficult. Period.

Being in a higher state of consciousness and aware of your emotional state is what makes the real difference here. Being conscious means you are capable of hearing the other person’s point of view, understanding their perspective, and being accountable for your own actions.

Having the ability to gauge the level of consciousness of the people you interact with is very important. People with consciousness do not engage in name calling, blame shaming, or high tempers. Instead, they agree to disagree and find a way to resolve conflicts rather than concentrate on the fact that they have different opinions on the subject. Being able to understand the context of where the other person is coming from will help you adjust your tact and approach the conflict aware of what you’re working with.

Choosing consciousness in these situations allows learning and will pave the way for many revelations for your transformation. Growth is uncomfortable. Truth can be uncomfortable. Difficult situations are opportunities to learn and not choosing to grow means that you will get the same outcomes over and over.
